2/20/09 - 2/27/09 Weekly Totals

I had an outstanding week at Publix and am looking forward to my trip on Sunday for the .01 item and to pick up the rest of the great deals this week. The Captain Crunch coupons that I ordered off ebay arrived in the mail yesterday so I see several boxes of Peanut Butter Crunch in my future. lol

I went a little over my budget but it's OK, I've had two slow weeks and my weekly average (YTD) is only $77.08 per week which is right on track.

Publix 2/26/09

Back to Publix today. I wanted to hit the Pop Tart and Brownie Mix BOGO before the flavors I wanted got wiped out this weekend. I blew my budget this week but that's OK, it's been a slow couple of weeks and there were a few things I just couldn't pass up. I already had plenty of canned chicken but they had "peelies" on them and it made them so cheap I could not pass them up. I stacked manufacturer coupons + Target coupons on the Pop Tarts and Tropicana and plan to pick up some more this weekend when I go for my .01 item. The bananas and Kool Aid were some cheap filler items to help even my coupon vs. items count. When I stacked coupons for the Pop Tarts, Tropicana and the Bayer it put me over my limit so needed some cheap filler items to balance the total. I save way more by stacking the coupons than I spend on the filler items and it helps me avoid the dreaded register "beep"
I'm not going to post a total breakdown but if you want to see the coupon matches this week for Publix, visit http://www.southernsavers.com/2009/02/publix-weekly-ad-225-33/
  • Total Spent Before Savings & Coupons $211.76

Publix 2/23/09

After a disappointing trip to Kroger I was thrilled with my trip to Publix the next day. I had to stop by for my .01 item and FREE frozen veggies, FREE Progresso soup, more FREE Bayer, and CHEAP pizza rolls. I used a $5 off $25 Rite Aid coupon + the $5 off 20 item Publix store coupon.

  • Total Before Savings and Coupons $143.64
  • My Savings at Publix $120.64
  • Out of Pocket Spent $23.00
  • I saved 84%

Out of $23.00, more than half ($11.58) was spent on just the pork chops ($6.59), bread ($2.00), and milk ($2.99). I got everything else for $11.42!

Kroger 2/22/09

Check Spelling I'm not real thrilled about how this trip to Kroger worked out. It seemed like all of my coupons "beeped" including my (2) $1.00 off OYNO Catalinas. I don't have the patience to figure out which coupons I actually got credit for and which ones I didn't. My trips to Kroger are getting few and far between and if it weren't for the FREE Cottonelle, I would only shop at Publix.

  • Total Spent before savings and coupons $107.98
  • Total Savings $69.67
  • Out of Pocket Spent $38.31
  • I saved 65%

My order generated (2) more $1.00 off OYNO Catalinas and (1) $3.00 off 3 Johnson & Johnson products Catalina which just means 3 more .09 Buddie Bars.

2/13/09 - 2/20/09 Weekly Totals

It was a pretty slow shopping week this week. The .01 item at Publix was not great enough for me to make multiple trips over the weekend so I only went twice this week. I did get stocked up on Lipton tea and a bunch of great marinades to use when the weather gets warmer and we are able to use the grill. It looks like a pretty slow week for me coming up too so I'm enjoying being well UNDER budget!

Our store has the Betty Crocker frosting on sale for .99 this week so my .50 coupons (doubled) made all 5 of those FREE. The Blistex is on sale for .83 or .13 each after my .35 coupons (doubled) The Chinet plates are FREE thanks to a printable + peelie coupon found on the larger sized platters. I also used a $5 off $25 Rite Aid coupon.

I'm looking forward to my Publix shopping this weekend where I plan to load up on Lipton Tea, Ken's Marinade and Kraft Salad Dressing. Other than the normal milk, bread, meat and fruits I should be well under budget next week too! I'm also looking forward to no coupons in the paper this weekend. I did splurge a little and bought some great coupons on ebay and thecouponclippers this week but spent way less than I would have buying papers this weekend and they are for specific items that are on my Publix list.

Publix 2/2/09

2 trips to Publix yielded $108.94 worth of stuff for $1.99. I'm not really sure how it happened so I'm gonna break everything down and figure it all out.

A lot of the items had store coupons that could be stacked with regular coupons and they usually end up FREE or FREE with an overage. My local Publix is very lenient with their coupon policy but the register does "beep" when your coupons out number the amount of items purchased. When you stack coupons this can easily happen since you are basically using 2 coupons for 1 item. Although most managers will come and over-ride the "beep" I tend to avoid having any manager intervention if at all possible. They all smile when I come in to shop and I hope to keep it that way. I've started keeping track of my coupons vs. items purchased and make sure they are always equal to prevent the "beep". I've started picking up filler items (this week was the .50 Publix sodas) to offset the extra coupons I have. For example if I had 20 items and 26 coupons I would get 6 drinks to balance the order.

  • (4) Viva Big Roll paper towels 2.29 each - 4 x .50 doubled = 4 x 1.00 stacked with 4 x 1.00 Publix Store coupon = .29 each

Cheap, Fast, and YUMMY dinner for 5.

Every time I make this particular meal I'm so excited that I was able to make something that the family loves all from stuff that I have purchased BOGO + coupons at Publix. If you have ever been to Outback and had one of their pasta meals this would remind you of the Walhalla Pasta minus chicken, but add shrimp. I use:

  • 2 packages of SeaPac Shrimp Scampi
  • 2 boxes of Pasta Roni - (Parmesan Cheese or Butter Garlic)
  • 2 packages of the Birds Eye Steamfresh veggies (broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower)

Cook each thing separate and mix them all together. Fast, easy, and CHEAP too!

I figure that 2 boxes of shrimp BOGO + coupons cost about $5.00, 2 boxes of Pasta Roni BOGO + coupons cost about $2.00 and the frozen veggies BOGO + coupons cost probably about $3.00. In my opinion pretty close to a restaurant quality dinner for about $10.

It easily feeds a family of 5 with leftovers for one of us to take to work the next day.

I'm sure people look at the random stuff I buy and wonder if my kids eat cereal and granola bars for dinner. My mother-in-law sometimes reads this blog and I think she would be happy to read that all 3 of the kids ate 2 plates full.

Publix 2/1/09

A pretty good trip to Publix today. The .01 item was Publix coffee so I took the kids with me so they could have their own order and we could get 2 of them. (and also use (2) $5 off $25 Rite Aid) I had a couple "have to get" items. The Bounce I usually have a coupon but didn't today (maybe next week in the P & G insert) and the Lipton I usually wait until it's BOGO but still had a .75 coupon so that wasn't too bad. I picked up a few more of the cheap Aleve and the FREE Bayer. The overage on the Bayer actually offset the cost of the Aleve so they were really all FREE!

  • (4) Viva Big Roll paper towels 2.29 each - 4 x .50 doubled = 4 x 1.00 stacked with 4 x 1.00 Publix Store coupon = .29 each
  • (4) Town House crackers BOGO 2/3.99 - 2 x 1.00 coupon = 1.00 each

  • (4) boxes of Bayer Aspirin 2.69 - 2 x 1.00 off coupons stacked with 1 x 4.00 off 2 Publix store coupon = FREE and .62 PROFIT each
  • (4) Velveeta BOGO 2/3.59 - 4 x 1.00 off coupons = .80 each
